In the British capitol has been opened the annual musical and dancing Notting-Hill carnival, known as one of the biggest and brightest festivals in Europe. Enjoying the warm serene days, that returned to Great Britain, thousands of London's citizens and visitors crowded the streets of Notting-Hill - the western area of the city that turned in a huge carnival open-air fair.
It became a tradition that the first day is a so-called day of Caribbean carnival, dedicated to kids and their parents, therefore it is more "sweet", fairytale and family like. In a way the role of the first day comes down to warming up the public before the main events, when the review of dancing collectives and groups is going to take place.
The historical count of the carnivals in Notting Hill begins with 1964; the tradition of holding these carnivals was pawned by the natives from Trinidad and Tobago. Since then the initiators of the festival remain the indisputable leaders regarding dancing and carnival suits.
There is also one thing that became a tradition and that literary attracted and caught everyone’s eye: the steel band! Being a steel band involves playing on a steel pan that is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and at the same time is the only musical instrument invented in 20th century.
Another point that makes this festival remarkable is that there is no age limit; anyone interested in taking part is welcome. There are adequate activities and time reserved for participants of every age. There are parades for both children and adults: Adults CALYPSO monarch competition and The National Steel band Panorama are organized mostly for elder ones. There is an undoubtedly fantastic atmosphere throughout the whole two days: stream after stream of wonderful mood “guided” by the tropical rhythms!
The organizers of the Notting-Hill carnival and the board of the city expect a big number of visitors to come this year, as well as the number of direct participants is also expected not to be a small one. Greater London Authority and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea 'muscle in' on carnival management. 11 thousand of British policemen are called to assure the safety of both the visitors and the participants. They had to work fairly enough - for example, before the opening of the festival the police already made some raids through different areas of the city and detained 19 people that according to them seemed to be able to cause troubles to the public order during the festival.
