Sea Trek Aruba

When my wife and I honeymooned in Aruba, we tried to pack in as much fun and adventure as possible. We snorkeled, hiked, explored and drove from one end of the island to the other. But of all the things to do in Aruba, my favorite was Sea Trek.

This adventure will take up a good chunk of your day but its worth it. Sea Trek is one of the most exciting things to do in Aruba as you actually get to walk around on the sea floor, 30 feet under water.

After a short ferry ride to neighboring DePalm Island, you’ll receive safety instructions from the tour guides. They teach you how to decompress yourself so you do not get sick from the increased water pressure, and they teach you a series of hand signals so you can communicate with them underwater.

You can either go down in your bathing suit or a wetsuit. I recommend the wetsuit because the water temperature on the surface is quite chilly. If you only wear a bathing suit you’ll be shivering uncontrollably. But in a wetsuit you’ll be nice and comfortable.

The instructors help you put on a large helmet with an air hose connected, and then you slowly descend a 30-foot ladder (stopping along the way to decompress) until you reach the sea floor.

Once at the bottom, you’ll be lost in a world of colorful fish and a small plane that was submerged on the site. The instructors take plenty of underwater photos which you can purchase once back on land.

The pictures are only a few dollars and its worth it. Its hard to explain the experience to someone who hasn't done it. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
