Death Toll from Wilma Climbs

As a tropical storm Wilma killed 4 people in Nicaragua, Honduras and Jamaica. After Wilma became a Hurricane 5 more people perished. Another four people died in Mexico’s Yucatan although these figures appear to be too low by about a factor of 10 or more and no one has made a complete count yet. Cancun and Cozumel are still completely flooded. It is estimated the number will be 40 there.

The death toll in Florida is at ten people now and expected to climb a few more within the week as some are still missing. There are many complaints that the relief efforts are going to slow and that supplies for food and water are late in coming. Many are frustrated, but Jeb Bush governor of the Great State of Florida said, that folks were warned 4-5 days in advance and they should have stocked up with at least 72-hours of food and completely dismisses the criticism, yet takes responsibility if there are any unwarranted delays.

Cuba has not reported their death toll yet, but admits many were killed in Western Cuba, which get drenched from flooding. Twelve people died in Haiti although there maybe more, but no one is awfully concerned about it. Wilma is a reminder that 2005 was a wicked tropical weather season in the Western World as it continued to break all records. Think on this.
